Suggested Classroom Activities

STUDENTS' RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL COMPONENT

The following six learning activities are designed to be used in a variety of subject areas in the intermediate grades. Each lesson cites specific curriculum outcomes from a number of subject areas to which the lesson could be linked. These identified curriculum connections are suggestions - there are many other opportunities for linking concepts related to student rights and responsibilities to the existing curriculum.

These activities are a sample of the approaches and ideas that could be used to further student learning and ultimately to affect behaviours in the classroom, the school, and the community.

Educators are encouraged to used these ideas to engage students in thoughtful reflection, problem solving, and skill development related to their rights and responsibilities and those of others.

Finally, these activities represent a sample of the strategies and issues related to rights and responsibilities. It is hoped that they may serve as the starting point or basis for the development and evolvement of other topics and strategies.
