Strategies and Activities:
1. Collect articles, newspaper clippings dealing with violent acts
a) by young people and
b) against young people.
2. Develop a short story or play; create a dance; create a painting or sculpture depicting the consequences of violence.
3. Conduct a survey of students, parents, and community members to assess their opinions of what constitutes a violent act. Discuss the results of the survey.
NOTE: It is important to discuss what constitutes a violent act for the purposes of conducting a survey. People often have varied ideas and opinions on what constitutes violence and violent acts.
Implications for Teaching/Learning:
As follow-up or as a means of evaluation, have students outline a plan for addressing or dealing with violence in a) school b) in the community or a setting within the community.
