Topic/Concept: Human Rights are an integral part of our understanding of Geography.

Outcomes:

To foster an awareness that patterns of development have implications on the growth (or limitations) of human rights.
To analyse how the search for human rights influences migration and the desire for more just distribution of wealth.
To explore the linkages between human rights and sustainable development.

Curriculum Connections

To appreciate the need for humans to be sensitive to the fragile nature of ecosystems (3.5)
To understand selected patterns in the utilization of minerals resources and related issues (4.11)
To examine activities associated with the harvesting of fish resources (5.5).
To examine environmental issues related to industrial activity (6.4).
To analyse the comparative advantage of different modes of transportation (7.2).
To examine patterns of global trade (7.5).
To account for conditions that result in migration (8.5).

Strategies

This course is a broad one with choices in selecting various combination of course goals. Also many Intended Learning Outcomes already have a sensitivity to human rights considerations.
